Bridal Beauty Trends 2018
It was lovely to be asked to contribute towards a Bride Magazine article this month, and ‘Voila‘, here is the article and links !!
Bridal Beauty Trends 2018,The key trends in bridal hair, make-up and skincare for the year ahead.
For those getting married this year, there are an overwhelming amount of decisions to make. It is easy to get swept up in the big decisions such as the venue, dress and guest list without giving your hair and make-up a second thought. However, it is essential that your beauty choices are made early on so that you can tick this important consideration off the to-do list before you get caught up in the overload of tasks that wedding planning brings.
While consulting with the professionals in-person will help you to settle on a more final decision when it comes to your hair and make-up, here is a helpful overview of the key trends that brides will embrace this year.
While we are seeing drastic cuts and daring colours taking the fashion industry by storm, the world of weddings will forever remain more sheltered. Timeless and classic hairstyles will always have their place, but more modern interpretations serve to bring brides up to date.
New York Bridal Fashion Week is a good place to turn for inspiration and the spring and fall shows for 2018 give us a good indication of what to expect this year.
Spring and summer will invite structured plaited up-dos adorned with flowers and embellishments – akin to those featured at Ines Di Santo, super shiny volume such as that at Reem Acra, low chignons as seen at Peter Langner, and perhaps the emergence of crimped texture à la Jenny Packham.
For autumn, soft waves and deconstructed curls will be in abundance, as previewed at the Pronovias show, and bold top-knots may even reign supreme, as spotted on the Ines Di Santo catwalk. The gypsophila crowns that featured at Reem Acra showcase the continuing popularity of floral garlands, a trend that extends to the floral patterns now seen on wedding dresses.
Bridal hair specialist, Amy Lopez of Yorkshire-based hairdressing group, Westrow, comments on how to get the most out of the floral trend: “Bridal Fashion Week 2018 was awash with dresses embellished with three-dimensional flowers. This fresh take on floral should be complemented with a hairstyle that is equally modern and pretty. A low bun at the nape of the neck is simple enough to let the flowers take centre stage, while for a more English country garden feel, copy the Marchesa Notte (spring) way of doing braids: two intricate but effortless loose scalp braids.”
Hair pulled back into a ribbon will also be a firm fixture with brides this year and beyond. Featured in Marchesa Notte’s fall show, this is a trend that is echoed in the bridalwear trend for bows in 2018 and is already seeing designers jumping on board – such as these beautiful monogrammed hair ribbons from Clara Chatto, perfect for the bride who desires a pop of colour.
Bridal Beauty Trends 2018 – Make-up
English Rose palettes were prominent at the Bridal Fashion Week spring shows, with Mira Zwillinger, Oscar de la Renta and Hayley Paige as just some of the designers who opted for soft coloured make-up to complement their gowns. Blushed cheeks, nude lips, minimalist eyes and a matte pallor define the look that brides continue to love.
Conversely, fresh faced with a glow will always be a signature bridal look too and the dewy skin seen at Reem Acra exemplifies this trend. However, statement make-up becomes a more solidified option this year, with bold smokey eyes spotted at Ines Di Santo and dark lips at Berta. It seems that brides are pushing the boundaries and challenging convention that little bit more as we further venture into the modern age.
Prep your skin well ahead of the big day to ensure a flawless complexion and optimum glow in advance. Your skincare regime should be taken very seriously in the days, weeks and months leading up to the wedding, especially as you’ll be prone to stress-related breakouts and lacklustre skin.
This year is all about savvy skincare as consumers become increasingly aware of the ingredients they are applying to their skin. Gone are the days of chemically engineered substances which boast ground-breaking results and an ever-youthful appearance; now ‘clean’ products are coming to the fore as more natural ingredients are employed for their skin-friendly properties.
Korea is leading the way in skincare with beauty innovations that cannot be beaten and the rise in K-Beauty (Korean beauty) is more evident than ever before. It teaches us that feeding and nourishing your skin with the right ingredients is key and in turn, promotes all-round health and wellness. As such, K-Beauty products are packed with natural extracts; from the anti-ageing effects of aloe and moringa, to the revitalising qualities of green tea and even snail mucin – it is clear to see why the Koreans are leading the way in savvy skincare.

A good skincare regime should consist of cleansing, toning and moisturising every day and night. Pay attention to your Y-zone (lower face, neck, and décolletage) as well as your T-zone (forehead, nose, chin and mouth area) and don’t neglect the rest of your body either.
Caroline Swaffield, make-up artist at Amazing Face in Dorset, and contributor to ‘ Bridal Beauty Trends 2018 ‘, advises what Korean beauty products to use: “Konjac sponges, to cleanse and exfoliate, are awesome and are one of the reasons Asian women’s skin is so flawless. These sponges eliminate daily toxins and make-up and come in several types. Only exfoliate once a week; it’s too easy to do it frequently and strip the skin too far back with no recovery, leaving it weakened.”
“Mizosn Honey Black Suger Scrub is fantastic to revive sluggish skin,” continues Caroline. “And Missha Super Aqua Ultra Water Cream is a beautiful product that adds moisture without the greasy feeing and is great as a primer too. It retains the moisture within your skin with baobab tree extract and controls excess oil production throughout the day.”
Eco-friendly products continue to strike a chord more than ever with brides-to-be looking to overhaul their beauty regimes. Paul Richards, founder of online store Herbfarmacy, says: “From 100% organic make-up and skincare products to recyclable packaging solutions, 2018 is the year that the beauty world embraces eco-friendly ingredients like never before. Say goodbye to harmful parabens and non-biodegradable containers, and hello to cruelty-free skincare treats such as all-natural rosehip oil, face cream and beauty balm. Aiding beautiful results from the inside out, these planet-friendly alternatives to our favourite skincare essentials promise brides the ultimate in ethical beauty.”

Lytchett Bay Photo Shoot – Bride Magazine asks the Questions:
BM: “What was the inspiration behind the shoot?”
” Shealan Faere Butler was the photographer, approached Oxana Ruckhaber of Minster Brides having heard about her dress company. She had wanted to do a styled shoot for a while and the found her dresses beautiful and wanted to do something with a bohemian feel. Oxana’s dresses were perfect. From there she gathered a team of Dorset’s finest wedding professionals and we set about creating a true fine art photography result.”
BM: “Tell us a little bit about the venue and why it was chosen. What was the inspiration behind the shoot?”
“Dulled blue tones, marshy landscape, windswept, drift wood, peeling paint, these were the primary influences behind the shoot along with a desire to create a romantic, almost renaissance feel to the images.”
BM: “What was chosen for the flower arrangements?”
“The English Florist wanted the arrangements to reflect the wind swept, shoreline feel of the shoot, so architectural, textured flowers and foliage were used. The coral fern perfectly reflects the sea shore atmosphere, as does the Eryingium, otherwise known as sea holly. The spiky mini Protea were also ideal. Colour of course was an essential part of the shoot and Eucalyptus was chosen to correspond with the bluey-grey hues. The delicate Sweet Avalanche Roses picked up the blush pink.”
BM: “What kind of look did you want to achieve with the make-up, hair and outfits for the bride and groom?”
“Amazing Face Dorset recreated the natural soft country unstructured look that our brides know and love so well using Huda, Dior, Mercier and Wella products resulting in an ethereal and timeless beauty with a hint of modern glamour.”
BM: “What was the thinking behind the décor for the shoot? How did you tie it all together?”
“Granny’s Vintage China chose delicate vintage china in blush pink and grey to compliment the bridal wear, cake and the stationery. The look was fresh, and informal offset by the crystal glassware.”
BM: “What kind of accessories were used to create these looks and why?”
” The accessories supplied by Nancyandflo.com were designed with a hint of colour. These complement the tones of the shoot using beautiful gold leaves and the powdery blues and pinks in the crystal and gemstone beading. The regal feel of the crowns complemented the romantic portrait style of the images.”

Wedding of Kirsty & James May 2017
We have known Kirsty since we did her make up as a bridesmaid for her friend Kim’s wedding a couple of years ago, even then she said she wanted us to look after her for her own wedding. It was a super surprise when she called to say she was engaged and would we “please do my hair and make up”. Kirsty wanted a soft dreamy romantic look so we created something special to go with her dress, flowers and ideas that she had had since a little girl. On the day we were working other supplier friends who we know and love. The atmosphere was wonderful and we were looked after like one of the wedding party, by bridesmaids Sophie,Claire,Kim,Charlotte,Lilly, Sally and of course Kristy’s Mum!
Congratulations to you both, Kirsty and James. Your wedding is now on our list of ‘ones to remember’ Check out our Instagram amazing-face dorset and Facebook Amazing Face to see more of this wonderfully fun wedding . Emma & Cal Parley Manor
Beautiful vintage themed wedding of Emma & Cal at Parley Manor. In the gorgeous Dorset countryside. We loved looking after Emma as she wanted a glamorous vintage make up and vintage hairstyle which is something we excel at.Smokey ‘Downton Twenties’ style eyes and a true deep red vintage lipstick really set this makeup apart. The pin tuck curls and marcel waves in her hair, finished off the look beautifully.
